Dupes Dedicated: Liquid Lipstick

Wet N’ Wild Vs. Kat Von D

Which liquid lipstick is better?

Hello Beauties! I hope you all are having a wonderful day or night wherever you are!

Today’s post is another edition of my dupes dedicated series! I have tested out a rumored dupe for the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks. Continue reading below to find out if you can buy a $5 dollar alternative to this cult favorite!

Kat Von D is known for her extreme coverage foundations and concealers, her contour kits, and  Everlasting liquid lipsticks. I personally have never tried any of her lip or face products; however, when I heard a little rumor about my beloved Wet N’ Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit Lipsticks being a dupe for her high end version— I knew I had to test it out! Here are my thoughts…

If you have read my past blogs pertaining to the Wet N’ Wild liquid lipsticks, then you know just how much I love them! If you haven’t seen past posts, you can read all about my opinion of them in depth here, here, or here. However, I will summarize my feelings about them:

  • Comfortable matte formula
  • Long lasting pigmentation
  • Even coverage, no streaks
  • Fades evenly and complimentary through out the day

Now, when I went to my local Sephora, I looked for a shade in Kat Von D’s (KVD) selection that was comparable to my favorite in Wet N’ Wild’s (WNW) collection. I ended up choosing the shade Lovecraft from KVD to go up against Rebel Rose (WNW). And I have to say, I think the colors are pretty similar, with Lovecraft being just a tad bit more pink than Rebel Rose— but it was definitely close enough for my tests! After testing out KVD’s product, I can confirm that these formulas are definitely NOT duplicates of each other— they are indeed very, very different (in my opinion). And if I am being completely honest with you here, I favor the WNW formula much more than KVD’s!

On my lips, the KVD Everlasting Liquid Lipstick formula applied beautifully, but then dried patchy! The dry patches of my lips picked up a deeper pigmentation then the smoother areas, making for a multi colored lip. What I mean by this was that on the outer corners of my lips, the lipstick looked rosy and pink, but in the center (where my dry patches are) looked almost of purple tones. I was not a fan of the way this clung and accentuated the dry/chapped patches of my lips. Because of this, throughout the day the lipstick faded unevenly—giving an unflattering appearance.

*** Please keep in mind that I do always use a lip exfoliator and lip mask the night before wearing a matte liquid lipstick, so I was able to give both of these formulas a fair shot.***

I truly believe that the Wet N’ Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit Lipstick formula is waves above KVD’s. I have never had any troubles with the way this formula applies or performs. The crazy part about this? WNW’s product is priced at just $4.99!! Where as its high end competitor retails for $20! An almost $15 dollar savings for a product that, in my opinion, wears nicer throughout the day.

All in all, do I think that the Wet N’ Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit Lipsticks are a dupe for the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks? No, I do not; furthermore, I suggest you save your money and take a quick trip to your local drugstore!

Xoxo,

Alexis
